Welcome to my farm. Didn't realize it would be so difficult to try to find something worthwhile to say so as not to waste anyone's time, so I'm just posting a few of my latest photos. I told Sarah I wouldn't post any gross ones, so I won't . . . today.
Due to poor management of the sheep, I had a surprise crop of new lambs (37) beginning the first of February. These two became orphans because their mothers couldn't or wouldn't take care of them. After spending a sleepless night trying to keep them full, they were taken to Heifer Project International's farm to be fostered. Thank goodness! When I told a friend that I didn't know how my nieces did it night after night, she gently pointed out that they were a lot younger than I am. One thing I learned that night -- the milk you give baby lambs seems to come out at a 5 to 1 ratio! I had newspapers everywhere! But aren't they cute.
Came home one day this week to find my cows in my yard after having knocked down my fence. I think I'm living out some karma -- it seems "the grass is always greener . . ." This is LuLu, who is due to calve any minute and Betty, who unfortunately didn't get pregnant for the second straight time. You know what that means . . . it's dinnertime.

Here are Little Sister and Little Sister, Too enjoying a nice rest in the feeder. These two are due the first of May and "Fat" Alice is due the end of April. My first goat babies -- I'm looking forward to this.

Got my house painted (finally) this week. Now if I can just get the inside painted and a deck built, I'll be ready to move on to some landscaping.

ReplyDeleteLove the blog. I have added it to my favorites. Maybe the sheep could give Betty some tips on how to get pregnant, since the sheep obviously have it down to an art. HAHA Love KM
