I was going to take photos, even put my camera out, but guess I was too traumatized to remember. Said goodbye to two of my very first babies this morning. Dell, my friend and farrier, found a home for two of my big wethers and came this morning to transport them.
All morning, in my heart it felt like someone had just died, but I held it together until Dell was ready to leave then I lost it. It's not that I didn't want them to go or that I felt in any way that they weren't going to be well taken care of. Maybe next time it will be easier.
I can't imagine what shape I'll be in when I have to let go the ones that need to go to market.
Had my cry, now am having my laugh! Just took a look at Courtney's and Sarah's blogs. . . hope Tyler found his book :)
By the way, the photo of Sean feeding the white goat with the black goat standing nearby -- those are the two brothers that left. Dell just called and said they are in goat paradise -- lots of wonderful things to eat and a special shelter for them, plus she said Tina takes very good care of her animals.
Not "what's in your wallet" but "what's in your freezer?"
While I'm at the computer, just want to update Mae's status (the one with mastitis). The morning Sean and (big) Glynn were here, Sean saw something on the ground that he said looked like "a goat had gotten sick." Well, I've never seen nor heard of a goat throwing up, but couldn't for the life of me figure out what it could be. After messing around with Sean and the babies for a while, I noticed something black on the ground next to the "throw-up?" and it dawned on me what we were looking at.
I now have a black piece of a goat's teat about two inches long in my freezer. Thought I'd ask my vet if he wanted it for teaching purposes . . . yes, seriously. I couldn't just let this body part "go to waste" since Mae had suffered so much with it. Now, I have to admit it's a little embarrassing to admit that I kept it, and I haven't yet contacted the vet. He may stop taking my calls.
